Camden Council commits to continue funding additional PCSO’s

Camden Council has committed to continue funding 18 additional Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's) for Camden Town. The commitment has been made for 1 year (with a view for it to continue). Over the first two years of the initiative, the PCSO's contributed to a 17 per cent reduction in crime in Camden Town. As a visible uniformed presence in the area, the PCSO’s help to tackle crime and antisocial behavior and make people feel safer in their community. ... more

On Thursday 1st July 2010 the Safer Neighbourhoods Team conducted a planned operation in Camden Town using both uniform and plain clothes officers. One male was arrested and cautioned for possession of cannabis and one male has been arrested and charged with breaching his ASBO. Two males have been arrested and charged with supplying cannabis in Camden High Street, and it is intended that post conviction ASBOs will be applied for in order to ban these individuals from the ward. ... more

Over the weekend of the 10th - 12th of June, officers from the Camden Town Tasking Team, in partnership with Camden CCTV, management at a number of Licensed Premises and Camden Business Against Crime (who supplied radio equipment), conducted an operation targeting pickpockets who operate in pubs, clubs and bus stops during the late evening and early hours in Camden Town. The operation resulted in a number of significant arrests, and is a great example of the value of partnership working between The Metropolitan Police, Local Authority and local businesses. ... more

On Friday 7th May 2010, police officers from Camden Town with Primrose Hill Safer Neighbourhoods Team executed a search warrant at an address in Kentish Town. The raid occurred as a result of intelligence received during a recent drugs operation in Camden Town. A search of the flat using a drug dog found half a carrier bag of herbal cannabis hidden in a cupboard. A 25 year old male was arrested for possession of cannabis with intent to supply and has been bailed pending further enquiries. ... more

Officers from Camden Town with Primrose Hill Safer Neighbourhoods Team have recently been working to address community concerns about drug dealing in Camden High Street. This is one of the priorities set by our Safer Neighbourhoods Panel. During the last week the team made 10 arrests for drug dealing and related offences in Camden Town. Over the nights of Friday 29th and Saturday 30th January 2010 the team worked night duty from 6pm to 6am. Transport for London are working on the biggest transformation in the Tube's history. They are currently rebuilding the entire network, from tracks to trains and signals to stations, in a ten year upgrade programme, which is about to take effect in Camden Town. What this means long term is better service, higher passenger capacity on the trains and a smoother, faster ride each time you jump on board. Last night saw the turning on of the all new Camden Town Christmas lights, the switch of which was thrown by Councillor Keith Moffitt, Leader of Camden Council, along with CTU's own Chief Executive Simon Pitkeathley.
