The Northern Line
12th February 2010You have probably already heard about the Northern Line planned upgrade works, being delivered for London Underground by Tube Lines. The work is to deliver 20% more capacity and 18% reduction in journey times. CTU's current understanding is that Tube Lines' plan demands 65 weekend closures to part or all of the line, starting at the end of March and running until November 2011 including long weekend closures at Christmas, Easter and other bank holidays.
In addition, Tube Lines are planning 16 months of early weekday closures (Mon-Thurs) of the whole line north of Stockwell starting in July 2010 which would mean that the last trains from central London would leave by around 22.30. Whilst we understand the work is vital, CTU believe that the current schedule goes well beyond the actual requirements of the work and is particularly business unfriendly. We are working with London Underground to deliver a solution which lowers the impact on Camden Town businesses.
CTU are leading a campaign on behalf of CTU businesses, so if you'd like to get involved, have any questions or concerns, we'd ask you to come to us first so we can ensure we're delivering and representing your requirements as part of a co-ordinated effort. Please contact the CTU office HERE or on 020 7428 8690, and for local press on the matter, please go HERE and HERE.
