More Police patrolling Camden Town

back to projects

Since our inception in April 2006, cutting crime and particularly on-street drug dealing has been our top priority.

Our innovative security patrol project in 2006/7 demonstrated the value of a permanent high profile on street Police presence. Using this pilot project as evidence of the success of this approach, Camden Town Unlimited undertook a wide ranging lobbying campaign to secure sufficient Police resources to provide a year round service. As a result, LB Camden and the Met. Police agreed a £3 million fund to provide an additional 28 officers to patrol the BID area for 07/08 – 09/10. CTU subsequently secured further commitments to fund the scheme in 2010/11, and will seek to protect this resource in BID 2, should our mandate be renewed.

This investment has been our biggest achievement, and we are proud that almost 80% of businesses have reported that crime has gone down since CTU started operations in the area. Our work has been the decisive factor in changing perceptions about how to tackle on street crime and although we are not complacent, we are delighted to have had such an impact in reducing on street activity.
