In our original 2008 BID Proposal we promised to increase security presence on the streets of Camden Town. By paying for over 1000 hours of security patrolling, we managed to demonstrate the significant effect that additional policing would have on the area. Since then the MET and LBC have jointly funded 28 dedicated uniformed officers (18 PCSO’s and 10 PC’s) resulting in over £2 million of investment focused on cutting crime in the town centre.

This extra policing has reduced crime by a year on year average of over 30%, particularly anti-social behaviour and drug dealing. However, as resources become scarcer and our crime figures fall, there is a danger that Camden Town will lose its additional policing team to other areas.

With the recent news that three men were found guilty of supplying cannabis in Camden High Street, it is clear that extra policing remains vital (the heavy sentence referred to in this article also demonstrates the seriousness in which drug dealing in Camden Town is now taken). Major international events, such as the 2012 Olympic Games will bring large numbers of visitors to Camden Town, however, this also means more opportunities for criminal activity. The steps that Camden Town has made over the past 5 years to becoming a safe and secure district must not be taken for granted.

By voting YES you are helping to maintain CTU will lobby to ensure Camden Town our dedicated policing team remains in place until our long term improvement strategies, such as a better quality public realm and diverse business mix means Camden Town can sustain a crime free environment.
