YES VOTE for Camden Town Unlimited

In February 2011 we asked businesses to endorse our achievements and our Vision for a better Camden Town by voting YES to renew the BID for another five years (2011 – 2016).

We believe we are at a pivotal stage in the regeneration of Camden Town. We have achieved a significant shift in public and political perception of the area, shifting the focus away from crime and drugs to the unique and creative nature of the businesses in the area. To support this, we have started a programme of major public realm works which will secure the future of commercial activity in the area through a high quality, better lit urban environment. We are delighted to be able to maintain momentum on the success of the first term and consolidate our achievements to date.

Through detailed consultation with our members, we developed a business plan detailing the projects we will deliver over the five year term, designed to make Camden Town one of London’s premier business locations. As we move into an era of funding cuts and sustained pressure on public spending, it is vital that someone stands up and fights for the future of Camden Town.

How did the ballot work?

Only businesses in the BID area with a rateable value on their premises of more than £60,000 (2010 rating list) were eligible to vote. You can check your rateable value at www.voa.gov.uk. In the autumn of 2010 we were in contact with all members, asking them to nominate a voter on behalf of your organisation, and they received a voting pack in February 2011 explaining the voting process. The ballot was performed by an independent authority (the London Borough of Camden Balloting team), to ensure the results were not prejudiced.

How much do you pay?

Every eligible business pays an annual levy of 1% of rateable value (2010 list)  This table gives more detail.

Rateable value     BID levy
£60,000               £600
£100,000             £1,000
£500,000             £5,000

The BID levy will increase with inflation, with the figure determined by the Board on an annual basis but restricted to RPI+1%

*As with NNDR, charities will receive 80% relief on their BID levy. Some exclusions apply – see our BID arrangements for details
